Odd Looking Ring

Took this photo of a lost racing pigeon today, taken in a car park at Hegistbury Head Dorset, I noticed it has a odd looking rings on it's left leg, anyone know what it is?

Did you catch it and report it ????? if so owner could tell you , never seen out like it other than Chinese whistles maybe wind go through holes and whistles ??? Don't know :)

You tend to see rings like that with the turkish and indian birds.

look like they mainly sound like clanking when walking around , but also could whistle in flight , someone may know :)

Not sure how the ring would whistle, my birds have always tucked their legs in while flying.

Can't find anything like it on google, very odd, if you notice the lower ring is loose & not attached to the large perforated ring.

I would suggest it supports a previously broken leg. The leg looks a bit out of normal shape.

Can't be, both the upper & lower rings had no joins, so must have been put on when young.

looks like a leg splint thats starting to perish with the weather like a race rubber does
